Purpose: Identify patients that have an increased probability of having a pulmonary embolism based on specific patient characteristics.

Rule:

Age 65 years or over: 1 Point
Previous Deep Vein Thrombosis or Pulmonary Embolism: 3 Points
Surgery or fracture within 1 month: 2 Points
Active malignant condition: 2 Points
Unilateral lower limb pain: 3 Points
Haemoptysis: 2 Points
Heart rate 75 to 94 beats per minute: 3 Points
Heart rate 95 or more beats per minute: 5 Points
Pain on deep palpation of lower limb and unilateral oedema: 4 Points

Pre-Test Probability: 8% (0-3 Points), 28% (4-10 Points), 74% (>11 Points)
